Admission Policy

Sheikh Zayed International Academy is a coeducational International residential cum day school. The student cohort is a mix of all nationalities. Admission is based on a student’s qualification. SZIA is affiliated to Cambridge International Examination (CIE) U.K. and Edexcel Board London.
The school prepares students for the following international tests and examinations:
  • Grade 1-6
    • Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Tests
  • Grade 7-8
    • Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint Tests
  • Grade 9-10
    • International General Certificate of Secondary Education
  • Grade 11-12
    • AS and A-Levels Examination

    Admission Process

    There are certain general requirements of SZIA’s admission policy that are made available to parents (also available on www.szia.ae) desirous of admission of their wards in the school.
    The parent desirous of admission of their wards in the school visit the HR office, where their queries are addressed. The following documents have to be provided before the prospective student is allowed to sit for the admission test:
  • Registration Form (School Registration Office/Administration Block)
  • Medical Form(School Registration Office/Administration Block)
  • 6 Photographs
  • Copy of valid passport
  • 2 year report cards from the previous school
  • Form to be filled confidentially by previous school

  • After this formality has been completed, the parents are given the time and date for the entrance test. The successful candidates are called for an interview conducted by the Academic Coordinator/ Head of Section. After the recommendation of the Academic Coordinator they meet the Principal for the final approval and admission. The whole process helps facilitate the placement of the student.
    Clear guide lines for the interview are provided to the relevant staff and the administration. Entrance tests are prepared beforehand, according to the international standard of each grade level for which admission is desired.

    Particulars for Interview + Entrance Test

    • Preschool to Grade 3
      • Subject to interview with the Head of Section and the Home Room teacher.
    • Grade 4 to Grade 9
      • Written tests:
        • English
          • Comprehension
          • Vocabulary skills through context
          • Language skills
          • Writing Skills
          • Reading Skills
          • Creative Thinking
          • Critical Thinking
          • (All skills according to international standards of respective age level)
        • Mathematics
          • General analytical skills
          • (According to international standards based on respective age level)
      • Interview
    • Grade 10
      • IGCSE O-Level and GCE tests in subjects attended
      • At least 60% completed IGCSE/O-Level content
    • Grade 11
      • Cleared five subjects of IGCSE/GCSE. Should have secured Grade B in at least three subjects
      • Test of oral/Writing skills in English
    • Grade 12
      • AS result minimum grade of ’ C’ in all subjects (2 or 3)
        (or)
      • At least 60% completion of A-Level content.

    Candidates seeking admission for Entry SZIA High School Diploma, which is equivalent to an American High School Diploma and is not dependent on any external examinations but may also have Equivalency in other countries.

    The conditions for the award of the SZIA High School Diploma are determined by the school. The students have to fulfill the following criteria:

  • Completed 10 years of schooling and scored 60% in at least five subjects.
  • Competent in English language skills.
  • Students who are found to be deficient in English Language skills at the time of admission are assigned to ESL classes, where teaching is scaffold and emphasis is put on differentiated teaching. When the students’ language skills are seen to have improved to a sufficient level, they are placed in regular language classes from there on.
  • The following entry requirement to International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) of IGCSE/GCSE students is

  • Completed 10 years of schooling
  • Cleared five subjects of IGCSE/GCSE and should have secured Grade B in at least three subjects
  • Competent in English language skills. If a student does not have the required level in English language skills then initially he/she is enrolled in ESL classes and after successful completion of ESL classes, he/she can join the IB Diploma classes.
  • Entry requirement to International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) of MYP students

  • Students who have completed IB Middle Year Programme are required to have passed the Personal Project and completed the School’s community and service requirement.
  • External students need to have

  • Completed 10 years of schooling
  • Cleared five subjects of IGCSE/GCSE and should have secured Grade B in at least three subjects
  • Competent in English language skills. If a student does not have the required level in English language skills then initially he/she is enrolled in ESL classes and after successful completion of ESL classes, he/she can join the IB Diploma classes.

  • All students of Grade 9-12 before course selection are counselled by the student counsellor in the presence of their parents to choose subjects reflecting their personal strengths, their future education and career plans. Students are made aware of the specific subject/ subject combination requirements of the future intended universities. Students are encouraged to research on the internet and discuss their subject options with their parents / teachers before their final selection.

    Inclusion policy

    SZIA aims to ensure inclusive education aimed at developing and designing class room activities that aid gifted/SEN students to work and learn cooperatively with each other. Depending on the requirement and need specified by the private professional advice given to the student, the school makes special arrangements for the individual needs of the educator as specified in the SZIA Inclusion policy.
